Director of Agriculture Innovation
Position: Full Time 12 Month; Non-Classified Administrator; Benefits eligible; Exempt Status
Location: Moorefield, WV Headquarters
Salary Range: $38,000 to $42,000, commensurate with experience
Overview: The Director of Agriculture (Ag) Innovation provides leadership and innovation to further support Eastern’s mission for academic, technical, workforce training and life-long learning for the Potomac Highlands regional community. Agriculture is an integral aspect of life in Eastern’s six county district and continues to serve as a driving force in the local economy. This position will lead and collaborate with partners to support innovative practices in Ag that are beneficial to the rural economy. The position will develop and implement strategic goals in collaboration with partners and liaisons from local, state and national organizations. Job responsibilities require practical and professional knowledge of one or more areas in agriculture. This position serves at the will and pleasure of the President.
Organize the Ag Action Council meetings with partners to identify goals for Ag innovation and strategic efforts
Lead development of the Annual Ag Innovation Showcase for the Potomac Highlands
Provide strong leadership to develop and/or coordinate Ag related workshops, certifications, or educational programs for youth and life-long learners of the Potomac Highlands
Provide oversight of Ag related equipment and data collection in collaboration with partners
Lead educational efforts at Ag related events in the Potomac Highlands and provide a service to Ag needs in the region
Provide thought for Ag curriculum growth for Eastern while practicing an entrepreneurial mindset to support growth in Ag Business, Ag Tourism etc.
Assist with collaboration of Ag related grant-funded workshops and/or programs by Eastern and its partners
Collaborate with the Dean of Advancement and Innovation, the Dean of Community Engagement and Partnerships, and the Dean of Teaching and Learning to identify and develop needed Ag certifications, trainings, and academic programs beneficial for the rural economy
Attend local and state Ag related/professional development meetings to support the service and philanthropic efforts of Eastern
Collaborate with the Department of Education, K-12 schools, 4-H and FFA to foster pathways for education at Eastern and beyond
Demonstrate professionalism and be a team player within the Department of Advancement and Innovation and Eastern WV Community and Technical College
Be an advocate and pioneer for Eastern while collaborating with other academic institutions, private and public partners, and governmental agencies
Regularly showcase Eastern’s service in support of Ag needs in written publications and social media
Execute other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Education - Bachelor’s degree in Ag-Science, Business or related field required, Master’s preferred.
Experience - Three (3) to five (5) years of recent relevant experience required. Any combination of education and/or relevant experience will be considered.
Additional Requirements - Willingness to work with varied levels of abilities and diverse partners; effective communication skills, both written and verbal; supervisory/managerial skills preferred; time management skills and ability to meet deadlines; strong problem-solving skills and organizational skills; accuracy and attention to detail; proficient computer skills including the use of databases, Excel, Word, etc; able to meet travel demands that may consist of subsequent days while attending professional development and job-related activities; may be required to work more than 40 hours a week at times, including some evening and weekend events.
